I found a great tool for color selection.  It is really quite flexible.  You can select Shades of a color, Compliments of a color or several others. The tool then provides samples of a site based on the colrs in both a light version and dark version.  The URL is http://www.colorschemedesigner.com/. 

Click on the circles to get the Mono, Complement, Triad, Tetrad, Analogic, or Accented Analogic. Color schemes
